Project 4000 – Shut Up & Read

Le Mans Classic by Laurent Nivalle

I find it harder and harder to find something I feel is worth sharing, but the photos that Laurent Nivalle took at the Le Mans Classic are something I really enjoyed. Car photography is something of an interesting topic that leads to some points that we’ve come to believe. There are two types of photographs of cars, the ones you take to look at the car, and ones that treat the car as part of a greater picture.

Ok so I think I might be a little tired and thus blabbing. But basically I love the cinematic feel of Laurent’s photos. You can check out my favourites after the jump or see the whole gallery here.

Optiko – Tattersall’s Arcade, Brisbane

2010-07-28-Optiko-1

Ok so a while ago yours truly needed some new spectacles and while gallivanting through the city we found the mothership of Eyewear, quiet possibly the best optical store I personally have ever stumbled into. Vintage, quirky, stylish, cool, praise worthy and the most eclectic collection of eyewear as far as the eye can see (pun wholeheartedly intended). I’ve been to great stores in Paris, London, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and Bangkok, but no one place has ever offered more than the 4000’s own, Optiko at Tattersall’s Arcade, Brisbane.

JDM Style Tuning Meet Brisbane

After our escapades to the Core Series final on Sunday, last night we dropped by the monthly JDMST Brisbane meet to see what these guys get up to. Reports were that last time over 150 cars turned out, so expectations were high. Needless to say, we weren’t disappointed with plenty of cars turning up. It’s nice to see there’s a move away from the candy paints, giant chrome wheels and airbrushing that seems to dominate the Australian scene. We didn’t bother taking too many shots because aside from there being plenty of guys that shoot all night, we’re still a grip on shooting in different settings.

Big thanks to Riley and Rory for making us feel welcome, and to all the guys and gals that grabbed some stickers cheers. I’m sure there were plenty of “what the…” reactions from those who found P4 stickers shoved under their windscreen wipers, but hey we’re shameless.

For more pics and future event info you can head to JDMST or check out Downshift Aus.

Core Series Finals – Kuraby Skate Park

2010-07-18-Core Series

This past Sunday, Kuraby Skate Park was the venue for the final showdown of the Core Series BMX competition. We went along to drop some stickers off and take some pictures and might I say we did pretty decent job. Thanks to Steve at Ride On for inviting us along, Colony BMX for organizing the event and shout out to the kids that went bananas for our stickers.

- P4, make jump for all the lovely pictures.

This gorgeous pair of Feit Moc Hi Boots in luscious Ox Blood Leather just arrived at my door steps. Just the best boots out period, because unlike most of the work boots that are meant for ermmm working, these shoes are made by people who know a thing or two about fit and out of the box comfort. Feit’s don’t require you to spend a whole month walking around with blood soaked socks.

- T, took this photo during my visit to the Feit Store in Sydney, big ups to Josh.

- t, I got my Stitchdowns last week which are equally excellent.

A few good dudes I know got together to form a new band called Apollo, I’m not well versed in my indie music but I did really enjoy attending their debut show at Noosa’s own crap shack of a bar now given a trendy name, Fusion. I think they are alluding to the fused smell of B.O. and V.B. soaked carpets, regardless of the venue these guys definitely put on a stellar show and I am sure they would like to thank all their friends who attended and a good time was had by all.

- T, more pictures inside and yes I’m back and I am putting a ban on hideous flyers!!

I’m usually a traditionalist when it comes to varsity jackets, like personally would never wear a “slim cut” varsity but I’m kinda feeling the Louis Vuitton joint he is rocking.

- T, it is auto playing for some shit reason so make the jump to check the interview

Old Man Shuttle

As I write this, above the earth Space Shuttle Atlantis is currently serving its final mission ever. With the NASA shuttle program winding down, we begin to see the instantly recognisable beasts take their final flights into the black abyss that is outer space. May 14th marked the launch of Atlantis on its 32nd, and final mission. With it, we move ever closer to the shutting down of NASA’s shuttle missions, with only two left. It’s sad to think that these somewhat cumbersome creations from the 80s will no longer be in service.

One of my favourite sites around, The Big Picture documents the journey from last November’s gentle glide landing to Atlantis’ turn around this week and it’s paradoxically violent firing towards the sky once again. Some great images of a subject that will never bore me. Check it all out here.

Domestique Launch – Chandler Velodrome

This past weekend, Brisbanites took to the Chandler Velodrome to celebrate the launch of newly established bicycle themed brand, “Domestique”. A large group of fixie heads gathered to check out the new brand, show some love and just have a damn good time. For many this was their first experience on the velodrome, whilst a few were already seasoned competitors. Along with the track there was also a few fellows that came along to oversee the velodrome newbies and offer a word of advice (or three). We went along to take some photos and drop some of our new stickers off.

Domestique is now available at The Outpost, Gear and Sneak & Destroy and a big thanks to the stores for organizing this dope day, as well as the velodrome support staff for putting up with the rag tag bunch.

- P4, lots of photos after the jump.
